More About Me, This Site, and How it Started

(5 Jan 2012) Edited to add:-

This blog was started in 2011 for me to give a shot at Project 365. Although I didn't manage to post a picture every day in 2011, it happened on most days and looking back, this site is a lovely documentation of all the nice memories that made up 2011.

As tempting as it is, this is going to be tough in 2012 so I am going to post pics as I please and treat this much like a photo blog. Browse around, have fun.

**********************************************************************

Project 365 has been popular among photography enthusiasts over the past couple of years. All you need to do is take a picture every single day for an entire year and post it somewhere online. Most people have a dedicated blog or site for it like I do, some do it on Facebook, Flickr, and other photo hosting sites like PhotoBlog that are especially for people who are on this project.

I started on it last year and tried to post a picture every day to a Facebook album. Although I didn't need any elaborate set up and clicked most of my pictures with my phone camera, immediately uploading to Facebook through Facebook Mobile, I still didn't keep it up. I just wasn't happy with the quality of the pictures and didn't want to do it just for the heck of it.

Last November, I got a better camera and decided to give this another shot. To make things slightly easier on me, I have decided to be a bit relaxed on the rules - if for some reason I am not able to take a picture on a particular day, I will post a picture taken at some other date, but clearly marked. Its challenging to find new and exciting subjects when all I do in a week is work from Monday to Friday and take the subway train home. Lugging around an SLR is neither easy nor convenient. I'd rather have a good picture in here than something taken for the heck of it.

Here's to a great year and mostly, better pictures. Browse around, have fun!

  1. Well said Nags, about posting a-photo-a-day-just-for-the-heck-of-it. I like that you have some relaxed rules which in turn will make this Project much more memorable & enjoyable.

All the very best. I will follow you through this with you. :-).

    Hugs,
    Siri

  3. All the best! You sound so sincere in the effort and relaxing the photo a day is ok. This project is for you, yourself, and its hard to do a thing every single day of the year. Will be visiting here.

  10. hey Nags.. i keep trailing you off and on when time permits..i have a name for you.."enthu cookie" apppreciating your effort to go that extra bit..
btw, the main reason to comment is to ask have you seen Julia n Julia a english movie, where a lady called Julia cooks 365 dishes , one a day and then blogs about it..the recipes of course is one of Julia 's fav cook, Julia (played by meryl streep).. Since you are such an avid gourmet and photo enthusiast, a suggestion to do something of the kind ..am sure your fans will love the same..

  11. Thank you so much for the sweet comment Ambika. I do have a food blog, I just don't follow one cookbook author, maybe because I haven't found one that can inspire me like Julie inspired Julia. I loved the movie though :)

    Thanks again!

  12. Kudos to you, for actually doing this every day. I started too, along with Mon, but haven't been very faithful every day ;-) trying very hard, though :-)

  13. It gets easier when people appreciate the effort and give feedback (good and bad) on the pics :)

  14. Hi,

I linked up to this from your lovely blog on cooking. I like your style of writing (yes, including recipes) and the pictures are amazing.
I do have a suggestion for you on this blog. It would be nice to have a calender with each day linking to the picture/post for that day. This calender can be one of the options which can take a person to a particular day. Currently, accessing a particular day does not appear to be possible. Keep them coming and once again I enjoy your posts on both of the blogs.

  15. That's a great suggestion Prathima. Will try to get a widget to add to the site.

  16. I am not sure how I landed up on your blog, but these pictures are phenomenal. What type of camera equipment do you have? Also can you tell me more about the de-saturation techniques?

  17. Hey there, information about my camera is listed under the link on top that says camera, etc.

I mostly used desaturation in picasa in the past. just slide the saturation bar to the left until you see a pretty washed out version of your picture. it works for some pics but i like the effect.

thanks a ton for visiting and leaving a note :) appreciate it.

  23. Hi Nags,

I am Shruti from Coimbatore. I have been checking out your edible garden website for the past couple days because I love cooking and have been checking out your recipes. They all look amazing and the step-by step with pics makes it even better. Love the way you put it so simple!

But I got around to checking out your other links like project 365 and food photography and it will be an understatement to say that I am impressed. And all this while running a family and having a full time job!! Your zest for life is absolutely to envy! Keep up the good work!

But I know you and your dishes are being cooking in my kitchen for the last 4 months. Yours was the very first food blog I stumbled upon and from then on my favorite as well.
